As some of you know, I'm a big mixed martial arts fan, and I love all the personalities within the sport, which is why I like to interview them. However, Frank Mir, on a radio show, went way past being a flashy trash-talker, and right into an asshole/psycho realm with this statement he recently made about Brock Lesnar, someone who beat him badly the last time they fought:

"I want to fight Brock Lesnar. I hate who he is as a person. I want to break his neck in the ring. I want him to be the first person that dies (due) to Octagon-related injuries."

Sometimes an athlete will say, "we're going to kill those guys," but what Frank did was different all together: He said he wants to literally kill the guy.

What do you think, Seven Readers? Is that just some good media hype, or is that just going way too far.

sometimes going too far is the only way for people to get hype, and bad hype is better than no hype at all.

JerseySjov said it all.

Well it could be all hype, but the way it's being said could be a serious liability issue if he were to really kill Brock. I think they sometimes just let the adrenaline and competition get the best of their judgement.

Dude sounds like an asshole, but please don't tell him I said that because he would probably hurt me. Literally saying you want to kill the guy is crossing the line in my opinion but the MMA is a completely different animal. Could you imagine if Brian Urlacher said he was going to break Adrian Peterson's neck? It would be a media fiasco.

Um, that's not "sportsmanlike" behavior! I don't agree with setting out to "MURDER" people, regardless of whether you like the dude or not.

You kill someone in the ring, or you kill em in a bar fight....someone is still dead, and either scenario isn't the "right" or "permissible" outcome.

No, No, i don't this is good for the sport....for ANY sport.

have some class i say!

and you have more than seven readers now, you might have to up your statement! :)

Jov: I agree, but mostly I disagree. Mir doesn't need to make a name for himself at this point of his career, especially in this fashion. He announces fights for WEC, and I think he should be suspended for those comments.

Heff: I think that said it all, but then my response said everything else.

Shife: I'm a Bear fan, and if Urlacher made that statement, I'd say . . . Ulacher is too slow to catch Peterson.

Lyn: I'm glad we're agreed that Mir's statements were f'd up, but I disagree that I have more than seven readers.

I don't know, but it sounds a lot like what I wanted to write about my now ex-boss in my resignation letter.

Beck: You wished him/her death in an octagon? Awesome . . .
